Attached is a drawing of a side table I would like to complete. On the left side of the drawing is front/side/top views of the table. On the right I have roughed sketched an isometric view of what the table is intended to look like.
I have wanted to gain some more veneer experience and would like to use this as a challenge for myself. Given the thin profile of the legs I do not believe I have the option of using ribs and a skin. To get around that I am thinking of using a MDF substrate that will be multiple pieces cut to the profile and laminated together to form the depth of the leg. (Far right side of drawing) However I am concerned about the stability of this type of construction. Any suggestions that will work with the profile I am looking for?
The next problem I encounter is how to apply the veneer. I currently do not have a vacuum bag set up and I am looking for suggestions on how to complete this without one. I could build a caul to match the profile of the leg and press the veneer on using cold bond veneer glue. Applying veneer in that matter concerns me with getting enough consistent pressure to gain a perfectly bonded surface without voids or other issues. I am leaning toward using Better bond heat lock veneer glue. I still have my concerns with applying with the iron on technique, and that is why I have turned to you guys for some advice.
Let me know what you think. I appreciate any and all input. Thanks
