Dear all please give me suggestion for pressing the ziricote veneer having thickness variation nearer to crown area my problem is: due to thickness variation in material veneer dose not stick to plywood if their is any trick for pasting veneer plz know me otherwise suggest some indian supplier of pressing pad,

Deepak,

I have used canvas purchased from an awning supply company. We sandwiched it between the platen and the mylar on our feed through hot press. Hope this helps,

Thanks David. i will try canvas also. I am having one anther option of Silicone Rubber Press Pad, will it work or not? and what are the future problems for using this kind of pads.

Canvas work. Also more pressure if ya got it.
I am assuming you have a hot platen press.
If it's a small job, vac pressing will solve the problem as the bag will for to the item being pressed.

I have used india or gum rubber placed directly on the veneer being pressed. Also a slightly thicker glue line.

My problem is a little different, but may have the same solution (rubber sheet). I have an older hydraulic cold press, which has been giving bad results lately. There are ripples in the veneer, in the middle of the press. It is possible that the platens were warped by misuse of the previous owner. The manufacturer, Italpresse, suggested a 1/8" natural rubber or silicone sheet between veneer and wood platen. Does anyone have recommendations about type of rubber, Shore A hardness, and so on? I have also heard of using felt, or canvas for this purpose. Any and all comments are welcome.

I like the india rubber idea. 1/8" seems good. I would be tempted to use a thicker size. Would have to be tested.
I have used a vacuum press with the membrane directly in contact with the veneer. This worked well with mahogany and walnut crotch.
Of course, the press has to be loaded evenly. The same thickness across the entire platen. This may be why the platen is warped.
