Veneering ABS plastic?
1/23/14
Has anyone successfully bonded wood veneer (or laminate for that matter) to an abs plastic panel? If so, what adhesive was used and any special circumstances with the veneer? (ie contact cement and paper backed veneer)
Thanks,
Matt

Raw wood or paper backed to ABS you will probably want to use a polyurethane adhesive. It is a little difficult to use as it cures by picking up moisture from the air and foams. To much of this glue and you get a mess.

hmm...I hope some alternatives come up. Polyurethane glue would not be my first choice unless there ws no other way.
I was reading some good things about the 3m marine adhesives/sealants, namely the 4000 series and 5200 series glues. They stay flexible so a paper backed veneer would be the way to go, but still promising.

Veneer sheets with a PSA backing is ideal for this purpose. You have to make sure that the surface is clear of oils and dirt.
