veneer weight conversion link to m2. How reliable?!

I have a headache of getting the veneer weight conversion to link to m2.
My company bought veneers of various sizes with tonnage and m2 information attached onto the pallets. My issue now is once these pallets is open and the veneer is segregated and will be used in the production floor with regards to required size. Many of the unused size will be put aside and sometimes mixed in one pallet. During the stock checking time, we have a hectic and hard time to get the accurate figure to submit to the management. They suggested if the veneer m2 (the normal purchasing being done ) can be gotten from weighing the veneer themselves.

Weigh a good sized sample stack of veneer with an accurate scale. Determine how many square meters are in the stack. Divide the weight by the square meters to get your weight per square meter.
Weigh an empty pallet. Weigh a full pallet and subtract the empty pallet weight. Divide the result by your weight per square meter to determine how many square meters are on the pallet
