Prominent and well established architectural millwork manufacturing company seeks a senior estimator. This is a very well established premier manufacturer of very high end architectural millwork and cabinetry offering top wages and exceptional benefits. Responsible for estimating project costs; selling millwork projects to clients; developing sales leads; preparing bid proposals; and other similar duties, primarily those pertaining to costing and selling millwork jobs.
Develop and track project leads; solicit bid documents from past and potential clients; develop estimates of job costs from architectural drawings or plans: review project plans such as architectural drawings, sketches, or other similar information; contact architects, general contractors or others in order to obtain necessary information pertaining to pricing the work; determine best usage of materials and calculate labor hours to produce; develop detailed listings of materials needed, labor units, etc. Solicit pricing for products/materials not produced as well as bids from installation sub contractors. Calculate the final cost to produce and recommend selling price for review with Chief Estimator.
Prepare bid proposals; compile and summarize cost data and other proposal materials; write proposal and submit to client(s). Follow-up on outstanding bid proposals as required and obtain award decision. Participate in sale closings; meet with clients as required; negotiate price and terms within established policy limits.
Work with Project Managers: complete necessary file information for the Accounting Department on awarded jobs; update and/or revise bid documents and/or takeoffs to reflect changes prior to handoff. Participate in handoff meetings; communicate at handoff meeting on matters such as materials pricing, fabrication methods, assumptions and agreements made during bid process, or other similar strategic areas pertaining to a project. Liaison with Purchasing Manager to keep abreast of purchasing strategies, material pricing and/or vendor selection. Review changes in original contract and develop pricing for change orders on sold jobs as requested.
Perform other similar duties as dictated by responsibility or necessity, or requested by supervisor.
ten years of experience in field of high end architectural woodworking in major metropolitan environments
understanding of AWI Quality standards and QCP program
demonstrated knowledge of architectural millwork requirements for Class A office fitout, institutional, medical projects
computer experience in excel, word, outlook, bluebeam
familiarity with non-wood materials such as solid surface, stone, architectural metals, glass, acrylics , reclaimed woods, etc
integrate LEED requirements into takeoffs as pertaining to woodwork trade
interpret plans and specs accurately to produce material and labor takeoffs
write detailed proposals for submission to GC's with req'd inclusions/exclusions/qualifications
follow-up on submitted proposals; attend scope reviews and walk thru's as req'd;
work effectively in fast paced environment under pressure and bid deadlines;
problem solver; ability to correctly interpret gaps/missing information in bid documents
strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills

$80K - $110K annual salary commensurate of experience
