Glue for Melamine cabinet

I cut a 2 x 3 foot cabinet out of 3/4 Melamine. The 3/4 melamine is laminate on both sides. So I want to glue the cabinet together. Can the Melamine edge be bonded to the cut edge which looks like particle board? I use UltraCat glue when using Vacuum press but probably need a different glue for this project.

It will not adhere to the melamine.

You need to use dowels, screws, biscuits, dados with glue. Anything except just glue to the melamine/PB joint.

Rabbet through the melamine.

You can glue melamine board to any raw wood or wood product using a melamine glue. BUT you should also reinforce the joints with Dowels, Biscuits, Screws etc. We use Franklin's Titebond Melamine glue (part # 4016.) Good stuff, sets slower than yellow glues.

Franklin makes a melamine specific glue. Roo glue is melamine specific as well. As others have noted, mechanical fasteners are really a must with melamine.

the glue would only be stuck to the melamine surface so you joint would depend entirely on the adhesion of the melamine to the substrate. That's why fasteners are needed.

Not all melamine board is created equal! Different wt. papers are used as well as different saturation levels of the melamine resin. Thermofused melamine board is pressed under heat and pressure that causes the resin in the paper to bond to the substrate. Well done that stuff will tear the face out of the board before the paper bond will fail. There are also producers that glue the paper to the substrate using a roll press line. I suspect they save the expensive resin content and substitute cheap glue to hold the paper on. On good board the melamine glue will tear the face fibers out of the wood.
