contour edgebanding

I use a contour bander regularly and have been seeing problems where the low temp glue(pellets) simply does not perform nearly as well as a high temp glue from a large edgebander. The glue gradually changes color(from white to dark brown) and loses adhesion strength over a week or so. It gets to the point where peeling the banding off is almost effortless(whether its PVC, acrylic, or wood veneer makes no difference). I clean the glue-pot at this point and notice a layer of white material coating the bottom of the glue pot every time. I have been told the correct temperature for this glue should be 140 C and have verified this at the glue-pot with infrared thermometer. Every time, the glue looks and smells burned. Anyone have ideas why my glue bonding is so weak?

Seems like a classic case of burned glue. Most likely caused by too high of temperature. Have you checked the real temperature to confirm the control is working correctly? We use Jowat282-20@165-170. We do try to keep a minimum pot level so the glue turns over faster. Actually mostly because of the poor design of the pot that causes excessive drooling. No problems with burned (darkening) glue. Sticks really well.

Try filling your glue pot to what you are going to use. you are probably filling the glue-pot completely and using the glue for a few days, cooking the glue in the pot.
