Combi Core Plywood2/21
I have a situation where I need to veneer 1" thick panels for some case work. I know that normally most people would use MDF for such a thing. I am just looking for a possible alternative not to debate over mdf. I tried to buy 1" combi core (1/2" or 3/4" mdf with layers of 1/8" poplar material on either side to make thickness) for the substrate, but it is not available in my area. Has anyone made their own combi core material before, and what adhesive did you use?
Ewww, I hate veneering on MDO! Andy, are you not in Atlantic Plywood's service area? If you are, ask them for Pluma HDF. It is Italian Poplar plywood with 2mm HDF skins, and it is available in 1" thickness. Another alternative is to get a good quality 3/4" veneer core and press on your own 1/8" HDF skins.
