New edge bander6/25
I'm looking to get a new edgebander. I currently have a Holzher 1411. The current one is about 15 years old so and starting to act up a little. We are custom shop-15 guys working in it. Any suggestions for a new machine would be appreciated. Any suggestions about good/bad features would be appreciated. I assume I'm in the $40-65k range but not really sure as I'm just getting started. Thanks
You didn't say how much use your machine is likely to get. Your size shop, doing mostly panel work, would run a bander a lot. New banders have improved a lot since the 1411's were made. Make a list of gotta haves and would like to haves. Dealers don't like to price options separately but you should insist on that. $65K for a production bander seems on the cheap side. Are you going to Las Vegas? If you do, avoid the sales types and talk to the tech guys.
Thanks for explanation, Larry. It's very useful information for me. Hey Rich, tell us, did you buy the new edgebander? If it's not a secret please name the place.
Thanks for the info. I've not yet purchased a new bander yet. We use the bander about 25 hours a week. We are a custom shop, not a production shop but one occasion we get big runs that could occupy the bander fulltime for a week or more. Before we have a 1411 we had a heavier duty machine but the heavier duty aspects didn't really get used that much. We are looking at a Brandt and Holzher now. WIll probably also look to see who else has a presence for service in our area and what they have to offer. I'm generally inclined to buy bigger and heavier duty than not. Hlozher pitched the Auriga and Brandt the Ambition line.
Just a quick reply since you asked. We did get a new Brandt. iy ultimately came down to the ability to get service, We have a strong Stiles service group not far from our shop and the Holzma service group was a little less established. In operation about a month. We haven't used it a ton right now-maybe a dozen or two jobs through it-since we have a large commercial job that doesn't use edging. In our so mfar limited use we have had very positive results and are happy with the choice. Next up is a new compressor. Ingersol Rand or Kaeser?????
