choosing between SCM and Stiles7/4
i need help deciding if i should I partner with SCM or Stiles.
Ask for service references near you. This is the most important thing.
SCM would not use me as a reference based on my experiences with them over several years. Good techs, poor management.
I would say which one can you get better service from as both are great companies. We use SCM but we are 45 minutes from their U.S. location. The tech that services us lives about 15 minutes from our shop and he does not report into the office so normally when we have an issue he is at our shop at 8:00 the next morning.
I would also consider the complexity of the product you are purchasing as it is very software driven. Just because someone in your area is happy with their entry level edgebander doesn't mean you are going to get the support you need on a panel storage system. Who has the most installations, and the most techs familiar with these installations is the critical data. Yes, both companies are going to try really hard as this is large dollar sale but in the long run the company with the most resources (relative to "Panel Storgae Systems")is going to take the best care of you. I am pretty sure i know the answer to that question but not with enough confidence to share it. How many installations in shops your size moving materials similar to yours? How many technicians do they have who are experienced installing and repairing these systems? If there is a bug in my software who writes the programming (someone within the company or a 3rd party)? I spent 10 years selling machinery (now a manufacturer) and comparing companies without considering the complexity of what they were purchasing was a common mistake of buyers. Best of luck with your purchase.
Im only a fan of SCMI for traditional machines. I dont like stiles. Both are huge companies and ive seen shops get lost in the mixx when they need support intill they either throw alot of money at it or bitch enough. Try KOMO or Northwood. Off the shelf Fanuc parts.
My personal limited experience has been that SCM has been good. Schelling & Komo near perfect, Stiles very limited and very poor. YMMV
