Office computer is dying and Ive decided to buy a laptop to have a more portable office solution.
I would like to run cabnetware v.14 and quickbooks, office.
Probably 17" screen.
Any suggestions of laptops only would be appreciated.
Look at Dell's Precision series , work station notebooks.
I would suggest not drinking coffee near the lap top, don't ask me how I know this
a dell refurbished pc Xeon processor w/ Windows 10 pro and 16g or ram on amazon cost me 410.00.
I bought 2 24” monitors @ bestbuy on clearance @ 110 each.
I have a laptop w/ nividia card with i7 12 gig ram fir 300 bucks same place refurbished
We have 10 pcs i7 or Xeon Most were bought refurbished 10pro installed and we added ssd’s and 1tb hard disk as a d drive to store all CabinetVision jobs
Good luck. I leave the laptop at work unless it’s urgent. I don’t seem to get much done at home with the kids after 20 years doing this I just knock out the crap on the pc as it comes in or changes are made.
I've picked up a Dell Precision 7710. Put a M2 SSD drive in it along with 8GB ram. M3000M NVidia for the video card and things work good. I have Win7 in it and if you can get it that's the way I'd go. Unexpected updates in the middle of the workday happen and can nix your work schedule.
Not trying rain on any parade but upgrading to 10 buy buying a fresh install is the easiest method.
We spent a lot of money on pc’s not wanting to updgrade.
We just put in a new file server also
I think we have updates scheduled after 6pm on all pc’s ? Not sure.
I will state that we are having our IT guys looking at the antivirus to allow Cabinet Vision to work a little easier in the background
For everyone that is online be aware of a Trojan or virus that targets your providers routers. Seriously. We got hacked 3 weeks after the file server was up and now we filtered and quarantined a virus from Eastern Europe. Came through our local internet provider
We switched to the microsoft Surface products. They are just as powerful as other laptops, we run Autocad & cabinet vision on them without issue. They are extremely portable, and the stylus feature has been very powerful for us when it comes to on site measurement. We can open the PDF right on the surface and do our markups on site. We save the marked up PDF to our cloud, and it can never get lost or damaged that way. Plus it has a high quality camera unit, so as we go through the jobsite taking notes, we can take pictures and upload them to the same file at the same time.
I have used a MacBook Pro and it is amazing. Run windows in Bootcamp and boot to windows. Pricey yes. Issues NONE. NEVER CRASHED Never had down time. Ran Cab Vis perfectly. All the benefits of Mac on the other side. Just throwing it out there.
