We are doing some work for a builder who is particularly fussy about the scribe line and glue line on laminate doors with 1mm edge tape on them.
We cut on an old altendorf f45 and it's not easy to get a perfect, minimal scribe line. Unfortunately the budget wasn't big enough on the edgebander for a pre mill.
I have been thinking about getting a spindle moulder to run the doors through and take 1mm off to get a perfect edge top and bottom.
Thinking it would also be handy to rout finger pulls into painted doors aswell.
Haven't got a huge amount of experience with spindle moulders and wondering if this is a terrible idea?
Assuming it would take about 1 minute per door to run all four sides.
Is it pretty foolproof or should I expect operator problems maybe like the end of the door getting an extra chunk taken out or chipping of the melamine surface with a blunt blade?
The stock would be 16mm MDF with gloss melamine coating.
Anything to look out for in spindle moulders, not looking to spend a large amount on it.
While I'm on the subject, looking to purchase a newer saw with digital fence to help with this problem. Can I expect to get a really good cut with minimal, consistent scribe line from an Altendorf or Griggio 10-15 years old, digital fence well maintained?
Thanks
