Looking for drawer assembly methods/machines
3/5/16
I'm looking for ideas on how to speed up drawer assembly. I've looked at drawer box clamping machines, and like that route. But, I'm considering other options. Need something that is faster than clamps on a bench, that ensures a square box. These will be doweled boxes if it matters.
Thanks in advance!

Try a case clamp. Uhling, would make a good choice.

Hi Bruce,
Thank you for the response. I should have mentioned we have a case clamp already, but I'm trying to pull the drawers out of the flow of our existing case clamp, so they can get done just before they are needed. Ultimately, a real drawer clamp may be the answer. I purchased some K body clamps over the weekend, and I'm going to make a jig to work much like a drawer clamp (clamping into a square corner). Hopefully this works until we can justify a drawer machine.

Uhling used to make a short clamp for drawers. If you really want to speed drawer production try metabox. I quit doweling drawers ten years ago.

We mfg our drawer boxes with blind tenon joints, pocket screw on front & back side to secure box together. All parts are 5/8" thick Birch plywood with UV2S, including drawer btm. Very quick assembly w/out clamps and yields a square, strong box every time, glue is optional in the tenon joints. Our web site has assembly instructions for our drawer box.
