Edgebander gremlins

We have an Italian chehisa bander that's about 8 years old. It has been likely used and has been s good machine. In the last few months, the front and back cutters seem to move to the forward position when you turn them on and don't return to neutral. If you run a panel it hits the cutters and the machine shuts down. Every once in a while, the whole machine seems to operate normally. We end up using the machine with the cutters off and cut the tape by hand. The guillotine works normally. Any thoughts?

If it is controlled by a PLC then check the PLC power supply.

I have an EP9. There is a sensor held in place with a plastic hose clamp type device on the in out ram for the trimmers. It should be lit up. If not move it back and forth till it lights, hope this helps

Don't know the machine, but if there are linear slides involved, give them a shot of lubricant. Used to have a similar problem on my BiMatic.

I think the problem is that the machine was made in Italy. Most Cehisa bankers are made in Spain. Just kidding. I have an ep-9 and all the movements are controlled by the trip levers . There is also a pneumatic control knob that regulates the timing of the lifters for the end cutters. As the panel trips the first lever, the first cutter comes down and when it passes the lever the second cutter comes up. Check that all these levers are free of dirt, excess glue and chips or that they are not bent out of shape. A rogue panel that is accidentally fed at an angle can bend the tip and it can jam against the frame of the chain roller and then everything gets frozen in position. If you do not have the manual, it is worth calling Adwood Corp and getting a copy. Harold.
