Help with new edgebander8/14
Just bought a Grizzly G0774 Edgebander, same as the Cantek MX330. I know it's far from a high end machine, but so far I'm very impressed by it.
When I'm running anything with atleast a 7-8" long edge it's working great. If I run the short edge of a drawer face, roughly 5", the piece shifts and the edgeband isn't applied.
If I just need to make up larger blanks for drawers, then rip them down, I'm okay with that. I would love any advice on how to get this machine dialed in a bit better.
Set the pressure beam down lower. To hold the part tighter. As it is adjusted now. There is not enough pressure to hold it secure.
Most banders have a problem with less than 9 inch long parts, A much wiser cabinet maker told me you can run 5 , but have to hold it square to feed as it runs.
Put a back up block with your part so that the block is about a 1/2 inch behind the edge getting banded. the back up block won't get banded but will help in keeping your part square.
Do what Bruce said. Run a second piece behind it, but hold it back away from the glue edge.
On the three banders I've used, about 3/4" back was good. That allowed the end trimmers to work properly but gave the narrow piece enough ass to hold the first one well.
