I'm in a situation where I'm hoping some contributors here can help me with some questions. I am a one man shop, and I also produce parts to other cabinet shops and find myself needing a bander. I don't build a lot of cabinets, except for a couple builders for new construction and it's generally a whole house worth. Averaging around 60 sheet jobs each. But I cut about 80 sheets a month for a couple shops on my cnc, both frameless and face frame work. A couple of them are wanting me to be able to do there banding work as well, both melamine and prefinished maple. A couple issues are
1. shop space. I'm limited and only have 1 space it would actually fit
I'm looking at the Minimax ME 35T. It's a glue pot bander with premill, trims, buffs, end trim, and an option for radius end trimming. It will just fit in my space.
I'm looking at a new machine due to the fact I have no experience in a bander and not that anything is wrong with new, I just don't want to learn from someone else lack of maintenance or care for the machine. Rep isn't far for service/warranty work for this brand.
Thanks for all the help.
Also take a look at Cantek. They have a model with a small footprint that has premill. We almost bought one, but I ended up with a slightly used SCM for a little less money. Going back a couple years, I should have bought the new machine.
Edgebanders are full of gremlins. Stay on top of keeping them spotless, lubricated, and tuned up.
Look at the Cantek MX350M it is a copy of the SCM for a little more than half the price. You should be able to get one for $14,000-$15,000 range. We have had one for about a year with zero problems with the machine and the couple of simple things we have called Cantek and gotten help right away. Those were things that were our fault. One time we had something adjusted wrong (we moved a cover or guard that was supposed to be moved) and it was putting something in a bind so the motor was tripping the breaker in the machine. So we thought we had a bad motor. Cantek sent a new one the same day at no charge. Then we realized what had happened and moved the part back and fixed our problem.
We also run the machine 30 hours a week or so.
Why the need for premill? I go directly from cnc to bander (SCM K201) without premill and have clean glue lines in melamine.
Tom, We have the same machine and go straight from CNC to edgebander with clean lines as well. As long as your CNC tooling is sharp, premill really isnt needed.
While premill would be nice, I looked at is as one more thing to adjust/break on an already tempermental machine. Thats the main reason I chose the SCM over the Cantek.
The Cantek mx340 does not have Premill and can be bought a good bit cheaper.
Thanks for the input, I get a little chatter from time to time on the panels, even with a fresh bit, so that's why I feel I'll need a premill. I'm brand new to banders, so I'm not too excited about jumping into this but getting to the point of needing one
Hello, I have a me-35 with pre mill , best thing about it is there is no need to adjust panel size up to 2mm . If you are near central Texas let me know , you could stop by for a test run.
Thanks for all the responses, has anyone added a mechanical tape counter to their bander? I'll be banding for other shops, charging by the foot and trying to find a counter to mount. Thanks
On my Minimax Me20 I can reset a meter counter on the screen for each session. It also has a total meter counter. I"m sure the bigger Minimax and SCMI machines will do the same.
Hey guys , I have bought brand new minimax me 35t , and i install everything based on the manual, the machine turned on , display but when i press the start button it doesn't actually turn on. i have checked all wiring it seems fine, i switched the terminals as i was suggested and still the same.
i live in Africa so i can not get the support team from my ITALIAN dealer easily i need to deal with it first. its brand new machine.
so i connected a1 a2 a3 and N , in the manual its says something about grounding. does anyone tell me if grounding is a must on edgebanders otherwise it doesn't turn ON. ?
Do you have the air line plugged in?
