3.5" Rad round over?4/14
Before I pull the pin on a custom tool Im wondering if anything pops into anyones head or if any of you have seen a tool that would fit this profile even approximately.
We have a bunch of production parts to run and the prints call for a 3.5" radius eased edge but that radius is slightly flexible. I thought maybe I could track down a 1/2" or 3/4" shank panel raiser that had a portion of the profile that would work but Im coming up empty on a long round of searching and going through catalogs.
Its a bit of a crunch job so I'd love to find something off the shelf rather than waiting 2-3 weeks for a custom tool.
The width and depth on the drawing arent critical but a large rad roundover is not looking promising in any searching Ive done.
Thanks for any input.
Try this bit:
I bought one years ago and it has proved to be a quality bit.
You might also look into insert cutters in general. The price of the master bit is steep to get in, but if you have the need for special profiles ever again, then by the time you order your second profile, it has paid for itself. Just a thought.
I guess stepping a cnc doesn't work for you?
Isn't this what a tilting arbor shaper is for?
We are wanting to run them in a single roughing pass and a light finish pass. These need to be on and off the machine in seconds and basically zero cleanup.
Search a bit more this evening and then I guess its pull the pin on a custom. Thanks for all your input.
Depending on where you are located, I would think it should not be difficult to find a local (or semi local) company to make a knife for a molder or a shaper cutter. We have two local saw and tool companies within 50 miles of us that would make these knives within 2 days.
Try Total Tooling Technology 847 437 5135 ask for James. Your on the right track of having a standard cutter reground to the profile.. They are good a quick turn items
Thanks for the contact HenBob, great quick convo, order in first thing a.m., much appreciated.
Your welcome. Great guys to deal with.
Would a Grizzly C2078 work for you?
