Small tool dust collection.

How are you guys tying in the orbital sanders and such into the DC system. Also, are your hoses suspended from the ceiling.
I want so be able to walk around the assembly area with the sanders hooked up. (20' radius)
Our system is already running through the day so I want to utilize it.

If you havent run some test already you might try it first. In our experience large central DC systems are high volume but lower velocity. So when you get any distance (or even close) from the unit and at the end of a small diameter corrugated hose, you have very little flow. We have a 2 1/2" takeoff coming off a 7" main that is not 10' from the DC and with 10' of 2 1/2" flex and with all gates closed the flow is mediocre at best at the end of the hose. A few times Ive clipped on another 10' of 1 1/4" to pick up an RO and the dust pickup is terrible.

I think for this reason many shops use dedicated collectors (high velocity/low volume) at the work station (shop vac or equivalent). Or run down draft or some other sanding stations that can take advantage of the high volume/low velocity central DC.

We run a couple shop vac's with dust deputy and the shop stays much cleaner.

Mirka Ceros is connected to a Fein Turbo II. Not enough suction produced in a small vacuum hose to be worth while connecting into the main DC.

We do the same as Leo , mirka ceros only with Festool vacs . Seems to work very well

We have four FEstool vacs, two 26's stationary with boom arms and the long hoses (30') that can comfortably reach all around the 4' by 8' tables. Two mobile for other areas we work in the shop. Also use Festool, Mirka and other sanders on the same vac set up.

They are really excellent units. Been running for nearly 5 years now daily and no issues. I so run the Oneida cyclones that sit on the top of the Festool vacs.

Once you get used to the hose, and used to a nearly dust free sanding area - you will never return to a non vac system.

I second what Andrew said about Festool vacs with the Oneida cyclone on top. I have switched to Oneida's black cyclone because of issues with static electrical discharges from the hose during use which was not real comfortable.

When I upgraded my Oneida cyclone from the earlier translucent model to the black version I then installed it on top of Rocklers blue roll-around "seperator" and capped off the original ports. That separator is connected to a Fein vac and helps keep the floors clean around my cut off table. I figured that doing this I was able to salvage a piece of junk and make it work as well as they/Rockler had claimed that it would.
