festool or felder small bander

I operate a medium-sized custom millwork shop. We mostly build custom wood doors and also provide millwork installation services. We build some custom cabinetry but we do not, generally, take on kitchens or large cabinet jobs. Our edgebander seems to have taken it's last breath. Does anyone own and operate either the Festool or Felder portable edgebander. Each seems like a good fit for our shop. I will need to produce a quality glue line but high production is a low priority for us. I can't see investing $20K in a new staionary bander.

How about spending $5-8K for a quality used bander? If it is a matter of space then go for a hand held but if it's money I would think an extra couple of thousand for a stationary bander is the way to go.
Banders are complex as a whole but each station is a few parts and are relatively easy to diagnose and repair. I may be in the minority but I would not be afraid of buying a used bander if the manufacturer has a good parts and service department.

Just bought the festool and the same experience was had for every festool purchase
Buyers remorse until I start using the tool and then total confidence and questioning why I waited so long to make the purchase
Time and time again festool out performs my expectations
I have not regretted a single festool purchase

If you go with the portable, get yourself a floor mounted vacuum stand to hold the parts while banding. Makes it much easier and you can work all the way around w/o repositioning. The biggest hassle with the portable is trimming. The glue always seems to gum up the trimmer.

Festool. Absolutely no comparison to this in the portable market.

For those who like the Festool can I ask if you have prior experience using a larger stationary bander?

Reason I ask is b/c my HolzHer bander has one foot in the grave and I really don't want to spend a ton on a newer one. It doesn't get enough use to warrant a large investment, but definitely don't want to try and go without one. I just fear that the Festool is so slow and fussy, (compared to a large stationary bander), I'll lose patience with it quickly and it'll be a waste of money? To me, (not having used one), it seems like a step between using an iron and graduating to a large bander?

So we set up the festool in a table and it’s much faster than the iron option for our small shop
Wish we had bought this edge band machine years ago
No maintenance and high temp glue
I’m sure you will not second guess the purchase and the space you save on the shop floor
It just plain works awesome

The big machine bander seemed to always need tuning and maintenance if not more parts and service
We got to the place where we needed something other than an iron because we gave up on the bander we had
We built a table for the tool instead of the festool stand and set it to max speed lowest glue out put and can run a ton of banding through it in a day
Clean up extra glue on the machine and start again the next day
I think I did 600+ ft glued trimmed and cleaned in 5 hours
