Pro scale / widebelt11/3
I have an older 37" single head Sandingmaster that I want to install an accuratemail technology pro scale on. I'm looking for suggestions on where and how to mount it..
See the photo of a sample install on an older sander. Hopefully this gives you an idea on how to mount it on your machine. I am certain Accurate has a number of installation photos. You may want to check with them.
It is the readhead that is telling the readout what to say, so it needs to be as close to the sanding head as possible. Not out towards the infeed or outfeed ends, but up close to the sanding drum. This will minimize any incorrect readings due to tilt or rocking by the bed.
I'm sure he can re-zero the readout after taking some accurate measurements. I found that really course grit belts need a re-zero anyway, they are thicker.
David is correct. Rezeroing does nothing if your table has any slop or backlash in it and your reading on the in or out feed edge of the table. We had a dro mounted similar to the image but never could get dead accurate repeatability until we moved the dro scale inside the cabinet centered below the heads. As mentioned you will always have to set new zeros when changing grits or is talking new belts but if your looking for seriously accurate repeatability mount your scale in the center of the feed table under the heads.
If your accuracy isn't super important outbound is fine.
