Veneer identification help7/10
I'm not good at identifying wood types at all (sorry) so I was hoping someone could identify this veneer?
I have rescued a glass cabinet that has some veneer missing and I would like to try and restore it (if possible).
Any other advice would also be welcome too
Just to add, this pic shows the missing veneer
Could it be Tornillo?
My guess is that is sun bleached/damaged walnut. Going to have to use some dye to change the color to match new veneer.
Second the sun bleached walnut.
I will agree that it could be sun-bleached walnut, or maybe even sun-bleached Honduras mahogany, rather than something more exotic.
If it is your intention to restore this unit, I suppose that minimally replacing the missing veneer would be the least expensive option. You might consider using butternut veneer, which would give you a walnut-like grain, but with a color that is close to what you have.
That, some stain, and some spray cans of toner, may be all you need to get it where you want it to be.
