Not that it makes a hill of beans difference, but the material is clearly not maple. In the first picture it is oak grain on those upper cabinets. Not that they're not nice all the same. In fact we usually do this stain on rift white oak because the grain is so beautiful.
Actually, it is maple not oak it was definately in either Birch or Maple. I have another job posting in rift oak, listing number 1077(Check it out). Also, I have done in Wenge and it looks sharp too(No pictures of this job yet).
My designer tells me you are in fact corect about the type of wood.
