Looks about 4'x4'. If so I would charge about $3,000 delivered.

$3000.00 is a bit steep for plywood, unless of course your in the "Hamptons". What about you guys?

Sean,
Thanks for being modest but even I don't think I would pay this much for a table, is $1500 ok ?

Sorry to say but I wouldnt ask more that 450.00 tops. the base is to plain as are the feet. if the center of the base was turned and the feet made a little diffrent than maybe 1500.00 The more detail you add to it the better the price will be.Just my pennys worth

The thing that sticks out here is that the table looks like it could be ordered through an office furniture store as an in stock item. Even though the workmanship is probably 10 times better than stock tables, the customer may find it hard to find the true value. Remember he will still have to go and search out chairs (?) I say the table alone max out around $600.00
Just my 2 cents.
Good luck

Thanks guys, appreciate different opinions and the details that my eye don't see.

Honestly...Keep away from plywood.Unless you want to paint over it.Try to use quality woods and fancy craftmanship from some lathe work...that really improves your value of the finished product. If you use light colored wood, then you can use different stains...dark woods...clear varnish. That table of yours? $300...$325 tops Dante'

I dont know what I was thinking/drinking when i said 3k. No wonder we didnt get that job I bid the same day as this. lol Actually i would say $1,500 is realistic. Yes it is pretty simple but charging $300- $600 ?

Lets say you got one sheet of a-1 ply a little 4/4 and a little 8/4 mahogany and miscellaneous materials, finish, sandpaper, glue, leg levelers. $125-$150 materials. So that leaves $175- $475.

So your saying that to meet customer, measure,a little paperwork, get materials, make cutlist, cut blank with angles, cut 8 sides for pedestal with mitered edges, machine to size 4/4 and route edge of detail, cut edging to length to wrap top, biscuit/pocketscrew/or spline edge on blank, glue and clamp up octagon base, make tapered feet and mount to pedestal, clean up glue, scrape/sand, seal, scuff topcoat, cleanspray equipment, load truck, deliver to job than drive back and clean up mess in shop. All this for $175- $475? Wow. You guys come work for me I will double your pay.

Tom you built the table already so you know how much time you spent on it, including all the miscellaneous time it takes to run the shop. Realistically how many hours did you or your guys spend on this?

I figure:

about 150 for materials
about 20 hours time

add deliverly charge

I come up with about $680 plus tax. That's in North Florida.

but i thihnk I'm to low.

Sean,
I understand all the work that goes into a custom project which is why the item needs to look custom. My point earlier relates to this. You can spend hundreds of dollars and tens of hours producing an item that a factory is pumping out for $200 wholesale. Jeff hit the point pretty well. Bottom line is the table is worth exactly what the customer is willing to pay.

Gregg,

Yes you are correct I think that the piece mass produced would definately be way under $600 retail price.

To finish up on my project. Thanks for your input. It took me around 2 days to build it and 1/2 day to apply a finish(conversion varnish). The A1 ply I paid $55, mahogany I had in stock. The base (legs are tapered 4" down to 3") and the same way is the top of base under the ply.Top and base (OCTAGON) IS PLY. But no I didn't get Dante's $300 worth for it, it was more like $1250 plus tax.

See, I told you I was to low.

thomasz - Just curious, how did you come up wiht the estimate on the table? Do you use a formula or do you price each piece individually?

Posted By:Tomasz

Arthur,

Yes there is a formula for calculating profits for a table like this. It is called the "Zsamot" formula which can give you potential profits without risking the loss of a project you're bidding on.
