We make several of these a year. Mostly for loft or attic access. Always fun.

The fun is when someone tries to ascend starting off with the wrong foot.

That's great! How'd you attach the treads?

Very nice Harry. Great change up from ordinary treads and risers.

Nice design. This one got me thinking. It felt as if it would be natural for me to start up steps left foot first, so I started taking notice of when I use the stairs some 20 or 30 times a day.
Sure enough I'll even stutter step to make sure the left foot hits the 1st rise. Maybe preference is a right brain/left brain thing.

Colin is right, so to speak, but he is left-footed. I'm left-handed, and I start stairs with my left foot, so when I first did some attic stairs like this 30 years ago, I was fortunate to have a customer that was left footed, so there were no mis-steps. Having never seen this type of stair previous to building a set, I was skeptical until I saw photos.

Now that we have seen some of your fun work Harry, how about a real stair?

Mike the treads are mortised into the stringer 1/2" and screwed and flat grain pluged from the outside. This type of stair is not new. The concept is medievel. Because they are not the norm they are very safe for the reason that folks are cautious using them .
