Thats quite a nice stand, your friend should be happy to have an "original".
What other woods have you considered?
I think Mahogany or even Teak would be a nice addition to your inventory.

I used 5/16 dowels for the base joints. I was thinking I would like to use walnut for my next stand. Thanks for the questions!!

Very nice work. I was wonder if you could offer your dimensions of the stand? I am going to make one for our church and wanted something with simple beauty and I really like the way this looks.
