The Feather Chest

This is a one of a kind, heirloom quality piece of furniture
designed and built by Kelly Snake of
Soul Tree Creations.

It is made from 90% recycled and salvaged wood.

It features a coded wooden combination locking system with a vast amount of possible combinations.

The code to unlock the combination is
actually disguised on the front of the knobbed chest

Each knob rotates and positions in and out.

When all dials are in correct alignment the single knob on the right end of the chest pulls out, permitting the lid to open.

Once the lid is opened, a secret locking device is deactivated,
allowing the bottom drawer to pull out.

This original piece of functional art will intrigue all that view it
for generations to come.

I am new to this site, and I am keen to find some constructive critisizm on my work.

Thank You

OK, a little destructive criticism- Let me get this straight...You have a pink box on top of another pink box that will only open if you play with seven magic knobs (and the whole thing is made out of scrap)?

I think you're a crazy genius!

Hey, but why not put a series of seven little nesting boxes inside just to really tease me.

The last box should contain something special like an Ice Age acorn or maybe a plastic little Indian.

Anyway, I think I don't like this thing but it sure is fun.

you say "This is a one of a kind, heirloom quality piece of furniture..."

anything that uses an Accuride BB slide is not to be considered heirloom quality. take away the slide and replace it with a wooden strip and dado and it might be worthy of such name calling.

i would like to see some hand cut dovetails on the drawers and main box.

the buttons are a bit too obvious and simple. perhaps you could disguise them as part of the ancillary trim work.

the proportions are pleasing to the eye but its a bit too tall for a coffee table.

what is the finish?

how did you paint the feather?

im a big fan of secret compartments in woodworking. keep up the good work.

Hey Sean - lighten up. Metal slides don't DQ a piece from heirloom status. It's an heirloom if the heirs like it. I think this thing is awesome, and wish my grandpa had left me one.

Re: Jim Baldwin-
A Crazy Genius? ...hmmm? ...I think I like the sound of that.
