Its difficult to get a sense of scale from the picture, and I,m sure the artsy-fartsy crowd will love it. But it appears that practicality has gone right out the window. The seat looks far too shallow to be comfortable. The back looks way too high and a little too verticle for relaxed seating.
I,m sure you're a more-than-capable craftsman, possibly better than I. But the design is lacking in my opinion.

well......it seems that the Doctor has mentioned everything he hasent liked about the style and some of it I agree with.
The back slat seems a bit on the tall side to me, but it could be the photo.
I do like the seat however and I think it would fit my big ass just fine.
Scott..you didnt mention what type of wood you made the bench out of, can you elaborate a bit?
How about the finish? What did you do to make the legs match the seat, I sure like the color match.
Can you elaborate a bit, Im sure that George Nakashima would give you a thumbs up to your homage.
Keep up the great work and I look foward to seeing your future projects........RCB

Thank you for your comments both positive and neg. (cant please everyone).
the seat looks narrow in the pic. but is 17" deep. The spindles lean back and the bulbous part of the spindle fits nicely in the lower back making it a very comfortable sit. The picture does make the crest rail seem high but when you see the bench up close you lose that effect.
The woods used are Walnut and Ash. The finish is a gel varnish. I usually use MLC Magnamax for my furniture but I wanted a very close to the wood feel. The walnut came from two different trees and I did not need to do any color enhace ment.
Thank you both again, always good to get feedback both pos. and neg. All other comments are welcome.

Scott, I think it is just beautiful, I notice you used 3 diferent size butterflys inlay, and sure like the dising. It also looks very comfortable. Thanks for the tribute to george Nakashima. I don't think neither Bob has any idea of design in furniture.

Absolutely beautiful! Wouldn't change one thing.

I think I would make the back set off to the right side. That would complement the asymmetry established by the butterflies on the left. The seat could be a bit more irregular, since a natural appearance is what the form is going for. I think the top rail has a really pleasing shape.
