Fir slab trestle table

This is a 9' by 36" table I just finished. Base is VG fir stained, the top was one 34"x10/4 slab but I ripped it and added a piece in the center to make it wider and keep it from cuping.

gorgeous piece of fir. i understand your reasons for ripping the piece, but why add such an uncomplimentary piece in the middle? also in the last pic it certainly appears as if the trestle is simply too massive for the size of the top. criticisms aside i still rate it higher than 95% of the projects we regularly see here.

would have to disagree w/ Geoff here. Contrasting wood in top makes sense as using similar color would look cheap when viewed closely. The base is in no way out of scale. From the side as well as the front the proportions are very pleasant to me.
I will agree that it is nicer than 95% of the work showcased here. Very nice piece.

I think this table is perfect. I have been wanting to make a trestle table for a while now, and this one is executed very well. I like the proportion. These tables have lasted because of their simplicity and strength. I also like the reveal below the feet. It lightens it up a little.
