Which part was sculpted?

Thank you for your positive comment. Sometimes knowing when not to touch a piece of wood and letting nature alone is enough of a statement in sculpting. That one probably passes you by, but thats okay. Try looking at some of the Mimalists of the 60s. Michael Heizer, Donald Judd, Sol Lewitt and translating that to organic forms in wood. Good luck with your work. joshua

First off, thats a nice hunk of wood. Looks nice as is. I hope the square base isn't part of the sculpture though, that ruins the effect. I would have put some type of sand box base - let the roots disappear into the sand.

Its nice what you would have done. The sculpture sits in a home with seven other commissioned works and was done to the customers wishes, base and and all. Next time I get an order I will call you in as a consultant so I get it right. thanks again. Joshua

Don't get upset Joshua. The base looks wrong. The artist should have some accountability to his own self respect. Don't you think?

First of all, you've posted some nice work in this site. As a practical person though, I just don't get why people are willing to pay any considerable amoutn of money for a a piece of driftwood bolted to a board, anymore than I get why people pay millions of dollars for some of Damien Hirst's "art" (like the stuffed shark).
