pretty interesting what you did for the ceiling. I had no idea drywall was effected by height. who knew. like the window treatment.

Thanks. I guess I didn't say it right; the drywall isn't effected by the height, but the structure is. This room is 23 ft. high and the adjacent rooms are only 9 ft. walls. The taller walls catch a lot of wind for one and the is a lot of movement in just the wood itself every year. I built the house as well, so this was a concern I had from day 1 with this room.

I know I'm posting on way past entries, but was the ceiling trussed or raftered? From my understanding, rafters are slightly more stable, but truss upheaval is a bear to deal with. It's also the only consistent callback I've had. I get a lot of cracking at interior hip joints and especially at wall and cathedral ceiling joints. Maybe because in ohio we see the extremes of every climate and moisture level. I like how you dealt with it. Also, the window is great. Nice step away from today's traditional.

Shawn, thanks for the compliment. The roof system was raftered. It sticks way up in the wind higher than the roof systems on either side. It just has too much movement that the drywall kept cracking along the hip rafters. We had to come up with a quick solution before the carpet was installed so the scaffold was out of the way. It is around 30 feet to the ceiling level.
