Altar

Listing #2762 Listed on: 05/31/2010 Name: Kalin Asenov

I made this for my husband. He is a shaman/ Buddhist/ overall spiritual person it’s a place for him to meditate, do his tarot cards and everything else that he does in his spiritual practice.
I made this with a piece of wood he brought from Costa Rica. It is a wood from sangrio tree, which is extinct. The wood was harvested from the fallen trunk of the tree.
I wanted to design the altar so that its center and focus point is the sangrio wood. The lighter part is made out of maple. The dark wood is raised above the main surface. It is also easy to be removed, in case he decides to take it with him when he travels.

The curved is made using bent lamination as a technique out of tiger maple. I wanted to keep the finish very natural and used Sam Maloof poly/oil Finish I purchased from Rockler.
