The top is great, FANTASTIC! The rest is too much.
Its like "Look at me. Look at what I can do." But it detracts from the real masterpiece, the top.

Nice work.

I agree that the overall is too fussy. The craftsmanship looks first class, but is far from subtle. Better work invites one to come closer and then discover the subtlety of the craft. The best part is the juxtaposition between the outward curve of the upper vs the curve of the legs. All the splines and dark/light detract from that one winning combination of lines.

Dave S.,
While vanilla might still be the most popular there are many other flavors to choose from. As I was building this piece I was thinking tuity-fruity pistachio jamoca almond fudge.

I agree that it is an excellent show piece, and can really show what you are capable of, but I can only imagine the most eccentric of people to want it in their house. It is definitely a "aesthetics over function" piece, and for that I would call it a success.

I like it a lot. Do not think it is over the top at all. But then again, I am colorblind, so I might be missing something. But the shape is nice.

FIrst off - this is outstanding workmanship and like others have said the top is outstanding. Also outstanding is the drawer, the body and the legs. All are executed. Very nicely.

The piece is like a demonstration of many difficult elements all put together into one.
Beautiful work .

Well done , you're a true craftsman.

It's a beautiful piece. It is intricate and strong in style. When a piece is understated, although nice for some applications, I don't get much info about the woodworker. This piece has a signature. A piece to be proud of...
Great job, Bret.

Great job. The run-out design of the bott shelf to me not quite right with the design of the top being a closed sqaure. Suggest perhaps a square frame with a complimentary design to the top.. even a circular shape inside a square??
