Your workmanship looks great but I have a few questions...

What's happening on the right side going up the stair, I seem to be looking at the end of a cut rail?

I also question the use of balusters along the wall, in fact I am wondering why a continuous wall rail was necessary?

The placement of the volute with the balusters and newel post mounted directly on the floor is a bit unusual...

I think the eyebrow ledger and trim might have been better had it been a continuous, uninterrupted half circle (what do you think?)

How did you handle the changes in pitch between the winders and straight treads? It looks good from the picture but this is a typical problem for these kinds of stairs.

Harry, I always critique every stair I've ever done and I always find things that I would have or could have done
differently. I am quite sure you do the same...

This is a deceptively difficult stair (as you well know) and you've done a great job overall. With respect then, my questions or comments are from one professional stair builder to the next. Tell me more about the project, I'd really like to know.

Thanks

From the design standpoint alone the continuous wall and use of balasters were correct.

Jim : poor photo on my part. The newel and volute are on a bull nose step.
I did not do the eyebrow trim at the ledger shelf but had I done that it would have been continuous. The changes in pitch at the transitions were handles with up-easings and over-easings. We laminated and ran this rail in house including the parts.
The continuous wall rail was needed for ease of use. The stairs are 42 "wide and the outer rail lends itself to more use. The rail on the right side was not complete when the pic was taken but it over-eases down and continues and returns to a wall rosette.
What would I have done different? I would not have pre-finished the stairs. I had to re-finish them after the other trade were finish even though they were covered with 1/4" plywood tread covers.

Thanks for the comments.
