Company Name: Nelson Company L.L.C.VERY poor photos of a table I am about to finish (still needs a quick sand and final coat) Just wanted to show what a hack woodworker with a sawmill can make from a couple yard trees. For those of us lucky enough to work with figured lumber, it's a given no photo can do it justice anyway.

I should mention that top is 24" wide (obiously one slab) + the walnut. I sawed a pretty large maple, and have dozens of 50" + bookmatches. I love having a sawmill, plenty of wood to practice on.

Be nice! To be a good worker you have to be confident in not only your work but yourself. The pics look fine, no blurry pics here. The figure is amazing, pictures do no justice, I know the feeling! To be honest, I'm not really fond of the design. The skirts seem a little akward to me, could of just ripped them in straight and rounded over the edges, but that's just my opinion. I just don't like to waste wood, especially curly maple. Also, I saw you screwed it and plugged up the holes, which is a nice touch. Ive done tables like this but mitered instead of butt joints and felt the screws wouldn't be neccesary as if my own body weight couldnt break it off, I didn't think normal usage would to any extreme so I didn't bother. Glue is exceptionally strong, so it just seemed uneccesary to me. Where did you get the wood for the top slab? It's beautiful, I would pay top dollar for it! I love the different ages of the wood, sap and heart.

I don't think it's my business to critique others work (it's art...none of it is wrong). Your table is a beauty!
Have you considered tapering your table legs? It is easy enough to do and would bring more emphasis to the table top.

Steve, no I didn't think of it, I wish I had. That little detail would make a world of difference. It would make the tapered skirt make more sense. I guess that was what Brian was eluding to, but I just didn't get his advice until now, the legs and skirt don't match. Thanks guys.

Great wood Daren! Hey I know what you mean about loving your mill. I built mine a few years ago. The feeling of building something from scatch is priceless. It's called showing off. Its a good thing.

I once installed a hardwood floor useing the same spalted maple flooring that was left over from Opra Winfrea Winffrey winfrea any way it wont be on the test. Any how the spalted Maple was actualy regular maple untill they buried in the ground and alowed it to rot basicly. After it rotted and got all these beutiful black streaks and such it looked good to the eye but to actualy use the stuff is another matter. It would actualy crumbel in your hand if you got a realy bad spalted peice. I like the look but I would never ever buy anything made of the stuff.
Opra installed about 100,000 sqft of the crap in her mantion / crib then this builder in Kentucky aquired the rest of it mucher cheaper than she paid for it and I put it in his house and it was a nightmare to work with.
Aside from that I think your choice of tops was a good one I realy like the old American crafstman look it has. It would sell easy I think because it is so unique.
