Memory Box - Pantheon Theatre

Listing #3416 Listed on: 08/12/2011 Company Name: Wheathills
Name: Nick Davies Member

After 18 months of countless conversations with the client, Wheathills' craftsmen developed a client's throwaway idea into an amazing Memory Box using age-old techniques and the finest timbers from all over the world.

The box itself represents a classic Pantheon Theatre, and inside a stage opens out revealing Dickensian street scenes and galleries of famous spectators all recreated in amazing marquetry work.
Over 10,000 pieces of marquetry were hand-laid, the box took over 2,300 hours to create and the traditional French Polishing alone took over 300 hours (no spray or lacquer was used).

The Box combined the client's passion (theatre) with a need to store associated memorabilia from all over the world (including theatre ticket stubs).

40hrs+ per week for 52 weeks? What did the client pay for this? Impressive work.

That is just beautiful and a piece that will definitely be kept, I'm sure, for centuries to come! Put some more projects like that and you'll have a wing at the Louvre to yourself! I would be interested to know a rough idea of how much they had paid too!

What does "cms" stand for?
Posted By:Ian Harrison
cms = centimeters
Posted By:Wha?
If that is the case, why is there an "s" on it - c for centi, m for meter, s for ?

Wouldn't "cm" convey the same information?

Amazing work.

That would be because it denotes more than 1 cm.

People want to know the cost.
Well let's see the size is approximately
32" x 32" by about 24" tall. 2600 hours@ a minimum of $100 an hour for someone with this skill set + the "timber" from all over the world, even pricey timbers (a.k.a kiln dried wood)in this quantity should not have exceeded $5-10k (probably on the lower side).
Hence 2600 hrs.@100 = $260,000 + $7,500 in materials + 15% o.h. & p = $307,625.
there you have it!
