After three or more years of my wife threatening me that she was going to Ikea to buy herself a bookshelf, I finally got around to knocking this together for her birthday this year.

Built entirely out of shop scraps and a leftover sheet of bamboo ply it stands just a little over 6' tall and is about 5' wide.

Matt,
Judging by what is on the bookshelf it looks more like it is for you than for the wife. It is a very nice looking, functional piece - good job.

I love the complexity and simplicity mixture....well anyway, when I can't come up with a good description that's a good thing.

I'd "steal" that design if I knew my kids wouldn't try to climb it. Great job!!

Absolutely stunning. Curious if you used a design or just built it custom. Really nice. And yeah, my kids would climb it too!

Simple, intellegent unique design. I like it a lot, How did you fasten the shelves to the stand.

Thanks Rusty,

The shelf frames are all let into a dado on the legs and the glued and screwed from the inside. The bamboo panel just floats in a rabbet milled around the inside of the beech frame.
