Floating Chair

A recently completed chair design exploration. Maple bent laminations held to a simple base by using 1/2" birch dowel and marine plastic resin. Now that I know the fulcrum point is structually sound, I will continue this theme in other pieces.

Love the seating area, seems the fluidity of it is hampered by the boxy base. Would like to see some sort of curvy-sexy base to go with the seat/back

Ken,

Nice chair! Take a look at Knoll's "High Stick" dining chairs.

Thank you for your comments Barry and David. Barry, as this is a prototype to explore the integrity of the fulcrum, I went with the simplest of bases using shop cut-offs to save money. Now that I am confident that this design is usable, I will focus more on the base and how it can better 'flow' with the theme. Thanks for looking! Ken.

Have you tried bending your laminations back under the chair to form the base?
