Steve Duncan Company

Listing #1184   Listed on: 03/03/2011

We are a small custom shop. Unusual sizes and shapes are a specialty. Hardwood and hardwood ply construction - no particleboard!

I started my business in 1978. My father and both grandfathers had a shop in the basement so I grew up learning woodwork and building projects out of scrap. I saw High school shop class as access to bigger machines. As a teen working at the local hardware store broadened my knowledge rapidly. I started doing jobs for the store's clients after work . My growing collection of tools led to my first small shop in the early 80's. I moved into our current location in 1989.

I run a 2 man shop. My associate Joe is still learning. He has made several impressive projects. I let him make mistakes sometimes because being able to fix your mistakes is one of the signs of a true craftsman. We use hardwood and hardwood ply , no particle board or MDF. Quality materials and craftsmanship will last.

Company Description Continued

We got a new shop dog last summer, a boxer named Missy. She lets us know if we have visitors while we are working. I have always had a shop dog, all boxers. Friendly but protective, a great breed.

We thrive on unusual requests. Odd sizes and shapes are a challenge. We have done many projects to match or modify existing cabinets. I make many test samples to find the right combination of wood, tools and finishes to do the job. I hate to waste space so I often suggest secret compartments , hidden doors and specialized drawer ideas to clients.
