#1 Firm is what I learned for a term 40 years ago and have been using ever since. I get it from Mcmaster.

The felt used on most sanders has a hardness of 060. Some manufacturers run a softer felt and will get one in a hardness of 040, etc.

S2-24 felt would be in the Shore A Durometer which would put it at 055 hardness. All the felt you need is at Mcmaster in whatever durometer you need.
