Identifying "Diamond Willow"

Woodweb members recognize the unique shape of "diamond willow." Here's a photo. February 1, 2015

Question (WOODWEB Member) :
A friend of mine gave me this piece of wood in order to make a cane. I have not seen anything like it before and she is unsure of its origin. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Plus one for diamond willow - a very nice piece at that.

When I was a kid (I'm 80 now) men who had wooden legs were often called "willow or willer foot" as willow is fairly strong in relation to weight. I have made many canes of our WY diamond willow but the diamonds aren't as large as the ones shown. It is a good piece.
