Kiln Drying Sawn Veneer

Thoughts on drying green-sawn veneers. March 13, 2009

Question
I am considering bandsawing custom veneers from green logs and partially dried lumber. What would be the best method of drying rough sawn veneer 1/16"- 3/16" in thickness? Would a Nyle L-200 work for this?

I'm no expert but I think it would be safer to dry it and then re-saw it. Drying thin stock is asking for warpage problems. The thinner material may not be as much trouble because it would be more pliable to work with when finished but would be wasteful (about 50% yield). Assuming you are sawing prime stock this is a bit high.
