Looking to buy a used first edgebander. Would this be a good model if everything works?

we started off with an older used edgebander as well. really depends on how much you use it. as long as the thing doesnt need a new gluepot soon and it works halfway ok then its not hard to get your $1500 worth out of it. dont expect it to perform like a $20+k model and a little post banding cleanup may be required then you are on the right path.

An edgebander is on the list of things I would hesitate to buy used. It really depends how they took care of it.

It is probably quite old, too many moving parts in an edgebander.

If you only have a little to do then get a local shop to do it for you, this is very easy to do.

That is not a top brand IMO, this is going to cost you more time than it saves.

Give it a whirl for $500, otherwise steer clear, to much money at $1500.
I would agree with Pat, in automobiles think of the brand that makes the crappiest lemon cars and that would compare to Cehisa in Edgebanders.
Just my opinion, which my wife tells me, means nothing.

I agree with Scott, offer him $500 and see what happens. Even if he doesn't go for it you may be able to meet at a decent place in the middle. Edgebanders are finicky beasts and you don't want to put too much into it. Having said that I bought my 1st bander, a HolzHer, used for $2k. I got to see it run and feed some panels though it before I paid for it. Bought it, had a tech service it, and it paid for itself on the first job. So if you can get it for a good price you may get by with it for a while.

Edgebanders are the most complicated machines in a shop and if they don’t work right you can spend hours adjusting and repairing and get it all dialed in and you go to lunch and come back and it’s not working. Sorry if he’s asking 1500 it probably isn’t wort it. Plug it into n and have him run a dozen parts through it

Scott, your wife was correct. We have had two Cehisas, and they were easy to adjust and operate. Pretty intuitive. Now have a big Brandt and it needs a lot of attention and money. Edgebanders are NOT simple machines to bless you only need to apply some tape. Use another router table with profile bits to trim and it will satisfy the very small user. Motor seals can wear out, pneumatic tubing can crack, regular maintenance and cleaning on a daily basis is essential and dust collection is most important. But, if you have a big shop or produce high end banded doors , they can make you slit of money!
