Stretch wrap

I have been using Goodwrappers 120 gauge 3" x 600' rolls with the reusable blue handles for a long time now and get them from Uline.

Was just looking thru my Hafele Essentials catalog and noticed they sell a stretch wrap that looks similar with the blue handle and it is a lot cheaper. I called Goodwrappers and they confirm that it is not theirs and it is a knock off.
Anyone tried the cheap Hafele and is it good?

I thought everybody was cheaper than ULINE! They carry all those SKUs for that giant catalog. Everyone pays the price for all that inventory and warehouse space.

Yea Uline is the most expensive and they charge $22 for shipping two cases (36 rolls)

Leo...Thanks for that link!! Saved me $33.40 on two cases...actually about$46.17 as i would have to pay use tax on for Uline. LMAO..the picture shows the roll placed on the handle.
I called Hafele earlier and they could not even break a case to send me a sample even if i paid for it and they could not confirm if it was made in China or USA..(so cheap it has to be China) Also when i called Goodwrappers the lady on the phone said the best place for me to buy was Uline. So im going to keep using Goodwrappers.

The U-Line and Amazon weren't exactly the same. The U-Line was 50' less with a different SKU number than the Amazon version. I guess you'll just have to see if they are comparable. Nice thing about buying from Amazon are the reviews. You can usually gleam good or bad from the reviews.

Thanks Leo, I always thought Uline was to expensive for stretch wrap.

Stretch wrap in general seems expensive to me. Same with boxes and bubble wrap. But it is what it is and you have to search around for a better price time to time. I use the 6" wrap with the build in handle myself, I get the 90ga.

Just checked, went up $8 since I ordered it last.

The Uline is 1000', Amazon is 650' per roll.
Uline at $85.50 per 18 rolls and $22 shipping per 1000' rolls is .00594 per foot.
Amazon Prime at $73.75 per 18 rolls 650' is .00625 per foot.
So Uline still looks cheaper.
We have to pay tax on both, so that's a wash.

The U-Line he was talking about is 600' x120ga. Anything with 1000' is thinner in ga.

Yes i like the 120 gauge which is the heavy duty.
I dont think Goodwrapper makes a 650' roll so im pretty sure the Amazon description is wrong and was probably done by the same person who took the picture but we will see when it gets here.
Im very thankful to have found a savings on my favorite stretch wrap. I always buy supplies in bulk because you always know the price is only going to go up.

Check with Uline on their shipping. They will negotiate depending on how much you order!

We used to go through a ton of shrink wrap. Drove me nuts how much would get put on stuff and the amount of time it was taking
Then I bought a strapping machine. We used to wrap both ends of a stack of shelves. I was good with 3 laps but everybody seemed to do 5-8. Now 1 strap in the cente. Set it on the table, make sure everything is square, step on pedal and bang it’s done!

This isn’t the one I have but similar

How tight does is go? Is it adjustable? I can defiantly see it for shelves or flat stock but what about moldings?

The key to having it work is everything is evenly bundled. It won’t suck a loose, messy bundle tight. It will hold tightly a nicely stacked bundle.
I don’t use it much myself, but I believe the tension is adjustable. At first we were using 2 straps but found that it worked fine with a single strap. We went from using 15-20’ of film (5-6 laps each end of a 12” shelf) to 2’ of strap. I don’t know coat difference on strap bs film but labor is less and it’s a much easier standard to set and maintain.
We have it in line at the end of our edgebanding and sorting area. Shelves come off Bander and get sorted by cabinet number and are bundled in 1 or 2 bundles per cabinet depending on size and quantity and placed directly in delivery box.

We still use shrink wrap in other areas of the shop as it’s not feasible to walk 60’ to strap a couple items together.

It arrived today and its the exact same as i had been getting from Amazon except the Goodwrappers box said 650'. When you buy from Uline it comes in a Uline box. So..the Uline description of 600' is wrong. lol

**Meant to say it is the exact same as i had been getting from ULINE.

I just purchased 2 rolls of 5" x 1000 (don't know the gage but it stretches very well without breaking) from HDL for $4.25 /roll plus shipping. I don't use a lot of this stuff, just a one man shop. but I didn't think this was a bad price. for what it does and how far it goes.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
