attaching panels to bottom of wall cabinets

We are doing a large face frame job where the homeowner wants the bottom of her wall cabinets painted. We paint all parts before assembly and would like to do the same with panels to attach to the bottom of the cabinets. These would also cover the bottom edges of the cabinet sides. The exposed edges of these would get covered by 1/4" finished skins that cover the entire side of the cabinet. Being painted we are hesitant to nail these on and fill the nail holes with a filler that matches (?) the paint. If we paint the existing parts (UV plywood) we would have to edgeband the bottom of the cabinet sides and do a lot of masking to cover where we do not want to paint. Any suggestions?

I've had success prefinishing 1/4" sheets for the bottom, putting a dab of PL/adhesive in each corner, and then using 23 ga. pins to attach. If the 23 ga. pin hole is untenable you could put plywood on top of the base cabinets and cut strips just over the measurement from that plywood to the underside of the 1/4" panels. At the end of a day spread some PL on the panels, press them into place, and then use the plywood strips to hold the panel in place overnight with pressure.

This is a great time to use a HiPur glue gun. We have done it with the construction adhesive 23 gauge pinner in the past. Keep in mind it’s under a cabinet. If you pin right behind the face frame and at the back it would be hard to see them.
Alternatively you can put your dabs of construction adhesive and use “go sticks” to brace it up. Essentially a bunch of stick that are braced off of the lowers.
