I installed a kitchen back in October. All doors and finished ends are Columbia Europly, special ordered in rift white oak. This is a frameless, slab door, full overlay job. The door are not banded. The edges are fully finished with the same two coats of pre cat lacquer as the fronts and backs.

I got a call last week to come adjust hinges. I've got at least half a dozen doors that are twisted corner to corner, far more than I can account for with the hinges. My sales rep gave me some BS line that Columbia recommends only MDF core for doors. This is 15 plys, it should be super stable. I've done this exact type of kitchen before without issue.

Anybody have problems with this stuff?

Sorry about your situation but we never use veneer core ply for slab doors. Always mdf
usually medex waterproof. If the client wants the exposed veneer edge look there are a lot of edge bands that will mimic that look.
I don't think that was a BS line it probably has a lot of credence.

On my experience, you'll get a call back on the precat around the dishwasher and range too. Good luck.

If this has credence and is a legitimate concern, should the manufacture of the product not state the concern in their literature?

I don't think they would have to put every possible outcome to every situation that their product might be used for in their literature.
Also I'm not saying nobody should use veneer core plywood for slab doors. You said yourself you had used it before with no problems at all. That said mdf core with a wood veneer is the more stabile choice and it's almost always substantially cheaper.

Well they certainly don't have to say don't build boats or clad the outside of your house with it of course. But who's ordering a custom veneered run of $200/sheet material? People who build cabinets or furniture. Those usually include doors. Cost obviously is not the concern, at least in the material cost. Redoing it on the other hand is a big concern.

I'd call that misleading at best, especially when they know it's a problem.

Just an FYI, Veneer core for a door is just a bad idea. Maybe you'll get away with it, maybe you won't, but you should avoid it. AWI Quality standards don't allow veneer core doors for this reason.
