Cutting solid surface
3/19/19
I am considering cutting solid surface countertops for our cabinets. I have an omnitech selexx pal CNC. I have no experience with cutting solid surface tops or installing. I ordered a miter fold bit for HPL that states it can also be used for solid surface. How difficult is it to design? I currently use Mozaik and love the program. I have heard that the material is hard on the machine because the dust is abrasive. How much of the cutting can be done on the CNC like undermount sinks?

Hi Brent!
Solid surface is actually easy to cut. Yes it can be abrasive on the machine if you do not have dust collection or poor dust collection but if you maintain good cleanup practices and collect the dust it really should not be a problem. There are several tools out there that will cut it just fine but I would suggest our Razor series tool as it was specifically designed to cut Solid Surface and cuts it like butter. If you are interested, our part number for the 1/4" version is XR2062-CB and can be found on our website www.xedgetools.com or through one of our many distributors. If you have any tooling questions at all please feel free to reach out to me.
