Shop Built V-Drum Sander

Listing #47   Listed on: 08/19/2011

"Become eligible for a FREE metal detecting Little Wizard II Planer and Jointer Saver. "

I hope this is the right spot for this: Having visited the Woodworking Show booth for the V-drum sander, I bought their spring loaded hold down rollers, 6" wide stick-on hook and their 3" wide loop sandpaper in 100,150,220 grits and came home and made my own. I made the platen with Baltic birch ply epoxying in 1/2" shafts from an old copy machine. I turned it round on my lathe but could not get it precise by hand so I had a friend true it up on a metal lathe. I scrounged around and put together the top and cabinet from an old office secretary desk. I had the bearings, pulleys, motor and belt on hand. I even made my own pillow blocks to capture the bearings. It works extremely well and will flatten wide panels using a hold down on each side. The paper changes very quickly and I can even divide the roller into a 10" 100 grit, a 10" 150 grit and a 10 inch 220 grit. In literally seconds I can sand small projects under 10" wide through all three grits without changing paper.

WOODWEB would like to mention that a Little Wizard II hand held metal detector was sent to Bill Stuewe for taking the time to post his Shop Built Equipment Forum entry "Shop Built V-Drum Sander". Thanks again for sharing Bill.

I would love to know where Bill Stuewe obtained the hold down rollers he used in this build. Have been looking for something such as this for my sander. Any help would be appreciated.
