Shop-Built Articulated Lathe Dust Pickup

Listing #58   Listed on: 10/05/2011

I recently made a better-than-the-last solution dust pickup for my lathe. I used star-type plastic knobs to quickly loosen and tighten the joints to the desired location, and made the inboard pieces out of a scrap piece of Environ, though any tight 3/4" plywood or hardwood would also suffice. I fastened a hardwood "T" onto the lip of the 4" PVC fitting that slides easily into the receptor T slots in both the inboard and outboard holders. Repositioning takes seconds and the range of positions is pretty unlimited. Works nicely though my collector could stand a size upgrade for more suction. Larger and more photos available if you're interested.

WOODWEB would like to mention that a Little Wizard metal detector was sent to Buzz Coren for taking the time to post his Shop Built Equipment Forum entry "Shop-Built Articulated Lathe Dust Pickup." Thanks again for sharing Buzz.
