swinging cradle

i made this cradle for our baby to come this fall.

| i applied 2 coats of bombay mahogany stain and buffed it smooth with 0000 steel wool and lemon oil, this is my first attempt to make a cradle, I'm fairly new to woodworking and would appreciate any pointers and comments you may have. |

the stain was minwax polyshades, and it has polyurathane mixed into it. this can was semigloss, but i think most of the sheen came from all the hours spent hand polishing it with 0000 steel wool and lemon oil.

Nice work.
Are those end panels solid?
If they are I would be concerned about them cracking as the rails and spindles will not allow the boards to shrink, or expand.
Nice staining on the pine though.

the panels are actually composed of 6 seperate 1x3 pieces and joined with #20 biscuts. also the mortises in the panels are about 1/4" oversized vertically (by accident) maybe this will allow expansion. thanks for the tip, I will watch out for splitting.
