I would be a little worried about the stile to rail joinery on these gates over time...What about the jamb?Where is this installation?Glue?Hardware?,how do you open from this side of the photo? The cedar lines are similar to the stone grout lines, nice.

We'll see what happens over time. I previously built a smaller gate for the side entrance to this garden. Same methods and has been there 1-1/2 years without any loosening. The web of cedar helps tie it together. They are all doweled and screwed at each end. The stiles and rails got a poly glue in the mortices. The dowels also got poly. All the faces (stiles, rails and cedar) got Tightbond III.
The jamb and hardware have not yet been installed. The client was having a difficult time deciding on hardware. They open away from you in the photo. There is a gate pin on the bottom of the left gate. The gates are installed on Maui so we shall see what the resistance of Lyptus is really like.

The home has about 30 columns, fencing, and railings of natural Koa throughout. It also has copper gutters (the 4 vertical pieces on each gate are 1-1/4" copper tube. I wanted the gates to fit in with the existing materials and landscape.

Bob, I wouldn't worry about it loosening short term (5-10years), it sounds like you covered all the bases.

I loves the random, yet symetric, cedar and the ghecko inlay(?) is a nice touch touch...

Thanks, I think they will be fine as well. They are very sturdy.
The gecko is actually a separate carving I did and then used brass pins and glue to fasten.
